CARING FOR YOUR BRAIDS

I used to think that the moment you put your hair in braided extensions on their hair it will grow automatically and that you don't  have to do anything else. i just found out that its actually the best time to take care of your hair.
its pointless to wear braids for a long time expecting your hair to grow only to realize that the situation and condition of your hair is more or less the same, if not worst especially if the motive for braiding is to improve the overall well being of your hair and to take a break from all forms of hair manipulation that lead to breakage.
I suggest the following steps to a more healthy braids wearing and also achieve happiness/satisfaction once the braids are out.
CHEMICALS- avoid applying individual extensions/braids in your hair at-least until after 2 weeks of any form of chemical input. sometimes braider will tell you that relaxing your hair just before braiding will make your braids neater and more presentable. truth is the neatness of your braids depends on how good the braider is at parting the hair and most often than not, the length of your own hair. very short hair tend to come out of braids whilst longer hair stay put.
BEFORE BRAIDING-always wash, moisturise and deep condition your hair a day before applying extensions/braids. a protein treatment is highly recommended especially if you have relaxed hair it should not be avoided.
MOISTURISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! this should be the best thing you have to do while you have braids. moisturise daily or weekly depending on how your hair needs moisture, because extensions have tendency to draw moisture out of our hair, try saturating the braids from root to where your hair ends within the braids.the best way to moisturise is with a  hair spray or even make your own that is more natural and has less chemicals i.e. water, glycerins , aloe Vera juice and any natural oil like coconut, olive castor, avocado, jojoba and sweet almond oil. and put them all in a spray bottle and spray your braids not just the scalp  but the length of your braids.
Avoid braiding every single strand of hair around your hairline, its way too delicate. Traction Alopecia takes place when braids are applied to tightly.the tension on the hair will cause the root of the hair to be torn out.
the effect of over tight braids can usually be seen at the hairline as it gradually begins to recede.
Braiding tightly is often done to ensure that the hair stays neat. unfortunately in a desire to have a neat, long lasting hair style you may end up damaging your hair line, don't  be shy to tell whoever is making your hair to loosen the braids if they are puling too tightly.
